Sorairo Tower and The Suspension Bridge Effect
YUKI: Now that I’m seeing it up close, it really is high.
MOMO: It is the tallest tower in Tokyo, after all! Have Iori and Nagi been here before?
IORI: No. I see it occasionally but this is my first time going inside.
NAGI: I also have not been inside, but I protected the Tokyo Sorairo Tower from exploding before.
IORI: That story again? You always bring it up whenever we see the Tokyo Sorairo Tower.
MOMO: I like that Northmeir jokes are so exaggerated! If Nagi really did protect Tokyo, then he’s a superhero!
NAGI: OH… But it’s the truth…
MOMO: That was fun~! The glass floor was so cool! I knew it was thick glass but my heart was pounding the whole time!
NAGI: Mister Momo’s legs were shaking, as if you were a newborn baby deer.
MOMO: But I was OK because Yuki helped me stand. Yuki’s a real gentleman!
YUKI: I can’t leave you alone when you’re scared..
IORI: Yuki-san, you weren’t scared? You were always looking outside.
YUKI: Yeah. I was enjoying the scenery outside.
MOMO: He even had the leisure to enjoy the scenery…! What a dependable darling! I’ve fallen in love all over again!
IORI: It’s the Suspension Bridge Effect. (1) The anxiety and excitement caused by heights are similar to when you’re in love, so it’s easier to feel positive emotions.
NAGI: So it means that danger and love are the same! (2)
IORI: It seems like it’s easier to fall in love with your heartbeat is raised. Apparently it’s beneficial to exercise in this condition as well.
MOMO: I do lessons together with Yuki! And we’re always together during concerts!
YUKI: So that means it was inevitable that Momo and I have fallen in love.
MOMO: Yuki...!
YUKI: ...Momo!
NAGI: OH, the married couple act has started...
TSUMUGI: But if we follow that theory, this would mean the IDOLiSH7 members would be subject to it as well…
IORI: We won’t be subject to it. We’re a group of males. But thinking about it, I believe the Tokyo Sorairo Tower is perfect for dates. The suspension bridge effect can be applied for the glass floor, and there are a lot of fashionable cafes and apparel shops on the bottom floor.
NAGI: ………! …...Manager. Why don’t we go back up to the observation deck and dance on the glass floor together?
TSUMUGI: Eh? Umm…
IORI: I think it’s meaningless to activate the suspension bridge effect forcefully though...
(1) Upon research, the suspension bridge effect is tied into the psychology term "misattribution of arousal", which basically works in the same way as Iori had described it. It's actually pretty interesting.
(2) I HAD A HARD TIME TRYING TO TRANSLATE THIS. In the game, Nagi used ドキドキ (doki doki) which is the onomatopoeia for your heart pounding. He said "dangerous doki doki is the same as love doki doki" but obviously this ain't gonna make sense in English without it sounding a bit too complicated (which then would end up ruining the simplicity of his statement lol). So I narrowed it down to danger = love, which is pretty much what they just talked about for the suspension bridge effect.
This is the Tokyo prefecture event, which is actually the first one players see in-game (Tokyo will always be your starting point before you get free reign to choose.) The Tokyo Tower is pretty famous so I don't really see a need to link to an article about it. Also I'm assuming we all know about the infamous terrorist incident that Nagi is talking about LOL I burst out laughing the first time I read this event. (For those who don't know, you should either read the side stories or watch IDOLiSH7 Vibrato!)
I've been having fun getting back to translating these events so I'm planning on getting out more posts here and there while I'm on a roll ^^
